Letters to the World (1)

To whom it my concern:

War is generally associated with extreme violence, social disruption and economic destruction.
I live in Romania and this country shares western borders with Ukraine. If Russia were to attack Ukraine, Romania would be the host of a riot, particularly in the northern part of the country. As a result of all the conflicts from the other side, these days the Romanian Parliament has discussed upon the idea of recruiting young people in the army, in order to be prepared for what it may happen. This would be done if the war took proportions. Taking all these into consideration I think I would not be able to resist such a war and the military maneuvers.
What is happening in Ukraine nowadays did not occur overnight, it represents the result of accumulated negative energies since the birth of an independent Ukrainian state in late 1991,energies which have led to extreme violence, in which dozens of people involved in street meetings have lost their lives so far and it threatens to turn into a full-fledged civil war.
Russia is a great power from all points of view, which holds a large territory, but wants to do everything possible to get richer by taking advantage of a small country. As I guide myself by the principle "the best succumbs", I believe that the leaders of the two countries, especially Putin, should give up the military maneuvers and forget about the annexation of Ukraine.

A concerned citizen,
Erwin Asmarandei
