Let’s fight war, instead!

                                           (A MANIFEST AGAINST WAR)

Over the past decade or so, it has become more and more obvious that our planet will suffer irreparable damage if the people of the world fail to act. There is no doubt that war means destruction, not the destruction of people but the destruction of the entire civilization. We believe that war is no more than a proof of the degeneracy of human kind.
First of all, all the wars we have known so far and will probably know a long time from now are the wars between people. A contradiction of opinions, sleazy interests of careless people and the thirst for power are some of the causes of mass destruction. The problem is that in fact we fight against our own kind in a meaningless battle whose results are nothing but death, poverty and dashed civilizations. Moreover, we let ourselves get caught in a continuous struggle to prove our point of view, our beliefs, or simply to prove that we are better or more powerful than the others, but in reality we only reveal how much men can fall.
In addition to that, we should all stop for a moment and think of what a war truly means. A war means not only some countries fighting each other in the name of some beliefs or any other reasons, but the destruction of our planet. In fact, we represent such a small part of a much bigger universe and we depend on our planet because without it, we wouldn’t be alive. So with every conflict, we destroy another part of our system. And then there is the question we should ask ourselves: what will happen when our planet is too damaged and hurt?
Because of war, everything that has been built will be destroyed, and the world will stagnate. There will be no evolution, nor proper education. We already lost so many years of development because of wars, and we do not afford to lose any in the future….for the good and safety of the future generations.
Do we really want to start a revolution against our evolution? Do we really want to fight and destroy our future? We consider ourselves better than that, but why aren’t we? We should be concerned about how to help mankind evolve and offer our younger generation opportunities to follow their path through a fulfilling life. So all in all, not only does our entire existence depend on our own decision, but we can also make a change and improve this world that we are living in. Let’s be united, let’s fight against war, let’s live life as we’ve always dreamed of.

Letters to the World (9)

To whom it may concern
War, I don't even like this word, I even hate the computer games with war content. Human desire is love, love means peace. Every time when a war starts, I get scared or when I hear something about war, people die and it is horrible. It's a true pain when a mother runs away with her children because of the danger, when fathers are recruited for army, and they may never come back to see their kids anymore. The stupid thing is that the conflict came out of foolish things. My father told me about my grandfather, how he was in the army.. All these stories are interesting but honestly, I don't know anything about wars... I can't even imagine... But definitely it is bad... People can't laugh, can't go and play outside, we can't go for a walk. We can't have freedom. Plus the financial problems, the prices will rise, it is going to appear a crisis. It definitely won't come good things from war, only bad ones. Peace is everything that we need, soul peace, country peace, all I desire for every nation in this world is peace.

Letters to the World (8)

To whom it may concern,

We have all heard about war since we were little. So have I, too. My parents and my grandparent told me about it and I have always been afraid of wars. I personally don’t like war and warriors at all, even if I find them in stories, books, movies, music or history…
Now, I hear about war all day long! At school, the boys are scared that it will be necessary to have to learn how to protect our country, our teachers discuss with us about possible consequences of this moment, of possibly being involved in a war, women are terrified because they don’t wanna lose their husbands, sons, brothers, friends… It is not how it is supposed to be in the world!!!
I can only imagine how war is and I’m really frightened about it. I can say I’m a dreamer, so I have a loooot of plans for my future and I can’t figure it out in such circumstances. I wish I could finish my studies, keep the relationships with my friends, go to the university, have a career, make my parents proud of me, make a family, a beautiful one, have children, grow them safely and have a peaceful, calm and happy life.
I think some of those future plans are universal, so I believe that each of us would like to have at least one of these and doesn’t comply to losing it. So let’s think about it… Is it the conflict between countries and the ambition of their leaders prior to the welfare of their citizens? Is this all about pride above freedom? Is it about the fear beyond the people’s smiles? Is war better than peace? Who answers positively at those questions must be insane!
I really don’t wanna replace the positive aspects of my life and our lives, too, with negative ones. I don’t want to turn hope into fear, happiness into anxiety, calm and silence into stress, smile into tears and peace into war.
After years, I wish I would breathe with relief. I also dream that when I re-read this letter I will smile and I will be happy to find that none of my plans was destroyed and I am still implementing them and counting awesome moments of life. Peace!

With concern, but hope,
Ramona

To whom it may concern,

War is something we’re taught to fear since our young days. It represents the worst period a person can live through because of the violent environment that is created.
Recently, there appeared a conflict between countries close to mine. Tho’ I didn’t know anything about it until I started writing about it, I don’t know if it had an impact on our population. I think war is something that shouldn’t be witnessed or lived. I found out that innocent men are shot in broad daylight, I am frightened about this fact and I wish the war would reach an end, as soon as possible. Being so close to our country I live with the fear that one day I’ll wake up and find out that I need to go to war. This would be the last thing I need. I look in our past and realize that nothing good came as a result of war, instead, we only had uncountable innocent victims and their place can be taken one day, if this war takes place.
I consider that war should never be an option when dealing with international problems.

Creating the Anti - war Poster

The 9 members of the team are creating a poster in order to show and inform their colleagues with the aim of raising responsability and awareness

Survey results

100 students involved in the survey
Students seem to be much aware of the existence of a threat from any conflict close to their borders(90%), mostly because they are informed about the fact that Ukraine has common borders with Romania(85%). They are not prepared to be involved in any military service/ training(90%) even if they feel afraid of the consequences of such a conflict(90%) and think that the conflict in Ukraine could change the map of Europe(60%) Students consider that Romania is very exposed(100%) and that theur life is to be affected one way or another(100%).
100 parents involved in the survey
Parents feel helpless regarding their power to protect their children from a conflict, particularly from a war(85%) and cannot think of having their children trained with a view to such a conflict(75%)

The survey reflects that Romanians are worried about the possibility to become part of a conflict(civil, war), they don`t see any solutions to war, they are afraid and not prepared to get ready for a war, they seem to feel the changes, both in their life and in the politics of the country.

Letters to the World (6)

To Whom It May Concern:
When I was little I used to be afraid of dark. I used to think that there were monsters there, waiting for me to close my eyes so that they could take me to their terrifying world. But time passed and I realized there was nothing there to be afraid of. Uh, how wrong was I! The monsters of my childhood are nothing compared to the new one haunting my life and who has a new name: WAR. And yet, the most terrible is that this time, the monster is real, is present in the life of so many citizens of Ukraine, a country we share borders with.
I used to open my eyes in order to escape from the dark but now, no matter how hard I try, I can’t do it anymore. In fact, the more I open my eyes, the more aware I am of the destruction and the pain the war brings in the lives of so many innocent people. Because, the only ones that suffer most from the horror of the war are the ordinary people, the women who lose their husbands and their sons, the children who see their childhood destroyed by some mischievous so called ‘leaders’ who only pretend to protect the people’s wealth, when in fact they only see their evil.
I am only seventeen and my life is still waiting for me. My hopes and dreams are out there, so close, yet so far away. How am I going to see them come true when I live in a constant state of fear? The fear that this monster will take my father away from me, will separate my family and will leave me in another world, consumed by darkness? I am asking you, the reader of this letter, to answer these questions and to make me understand how is that called life. But more important than that, I am asking you to take actions, to spread the word and to stand against these people who, from the comfort of their houses, control this thing. Only by rising together will we be able to stop the atrocities happening in Ukraine and to prevent the destruction of so many other lives.
After all, we are humans. We were given life by God and most important, conscience and the power of thinking and discerning. So let’s stop for a second and use these qualities to make our world a better place, a home for our future children, a world with no monsters in it!

Letters to the World (5)

To whom it may concern:

Lately I have remarked that on every channel, daily, there is news about the situation in Ukraine and I’ve found myself thinking what this is all about. So, I have done some research and all I can say is that the situation is truly sad.

I started wondering what would be like to see people shot on a daily basis… to see men, women and kids suffer because of some stupid conflict. And I finally came to a conclusion, and that is war could never be a good choice and it never was. We can see that, only by simply looking at our past and by counting the victims of the tragedies created by some selfish people who failed to do things right.

As a young citizen of Romania, I have fears. I am afraid to wake up in a reality that would send teenagers like me to war and not to college, a reality of uncertainty and terror. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this way.

I expect people to realise the costs that a war would involve and above all, l to realise that it isn`t worth a single bit starting a conflict that would affect the entire world.

Letters to the World (4)

To whom it may concern,

We feel safe in our own comfort zone; we feel protected, embraced by the loving arms of our parents, which would never let us leave our pretty little crystal bubble. It sounds like heaven, but meanwhile, other parents’ hearts are broken into thousands and thousands of pieces as they watch their child, their entire world, leaving the house and joining the army in order to bravely face the cold attack of this monster called “war”. Tears are running down their faces, being aware of the fact that it might be the last time they see their child alive.

How can we sit so carelessly, doing nothing? We are all human beings, we are all supposed to make this planet a better place and to peacefully live until the end of times, aren’t we? Why do we attack each other? I can’t help thinking about all these horrifying things that are happening right now, right under our noses. I am terrified that even persons who are close to me can be directly involved in this awful thing because of other people’s harmful ambition. I live in Romania, a country that shares borders with Ukraine. I will be extremely honest with whoever is reading what a teenage girl tries to point out (and I truly appreciate it, thank you!) and I will confess that I am afraid.

Why doesn’t anyone listen to us? I agree, it is way easier to just ignore what doesn’t suit your interests, especially when it isn’t something that you should be bothered by. There are so many questions and barely any answer. Something should be definitely done in order to draw attention to this pain-causing matter that let us live with nothing but fear.

A leader is someone who can understand millions of voices, even though he only hears one or two. A leader’s heart should be a 24/7 open place where his inferiors would find refugee whenever they need one. Under no circumstances should a leader send his own compatriots to war, to a cruel fight that will lead to countless deaths. What we have to do is to be as united as we can, so that the voice of an entire country would speak, shouting that war should be stopped immediately!

Don’t be ignorant! Don’t dare think that if it isn’t affecting you, that it isn’t happening. It does; it is as real as thousands of people’s fear and it is a bomb that’s about to explode. Two is better than one, and an entire community is better than anything else. We must stop it!

A concerned citizen,
Oana.

Letters to the World (3)

To whom it may concern:
War is coming. Do you know how it feels like to live your life as if every second you could be attacked, or killed, or - even worse - summoned for a battle? Everything is about going to an open field, shooting at innocent people who shoot at you, an innocent yourself, and all this for what? Only for the hidden, sleazy interests of some people who pretend to run the world, but not for the benefit of the bigger part of humanity.
The sad thing is, dear reader, that war itself is just a proof of how low humanity can fall. The lack of understanding, the frustrations caused by the lack of communication and - maybe above all - the selfishness and the thirst for power are the starters of a war, just like it happened in Ukraine.
I am a citizen of Romania, a country that shares borders with Ukraine, and I feel threatened every day, because a war can start any second. Ukrainians start mutinies and go out on the streets, aware of the fact that they might die for that, but they do it anyway. It is not just an act, it represents a symbol. Just like this letter. A symbol to address to the ones in charge: 'we are not ignorant, we see what is going on and we want to stop it!'.
We are aware, of course, that we value nothing alone, because a man who stands alone finds himself ignored, mocked or even shut down. But we start a manifest, so that people who share the same opinions with us might find us, might find the courage inside themselves to join and to speak out loud for their own, their family, their country or their planet.
Earth is our only home so far. By ignoring incidents like the ones from Ukraine we only contribute to its destruction. And without Earth, we can no longer exist either. So help us stop the war from Ukraine, help us install - little by little - peace. When we become a group they will hear us and we won't have to live in fear anymore.
With hope,
A concerned citizen, Mihaela

Letters to the World (2)

To whom it may concern,

War is dirt, war is sadness, war is illness, war is discord of families, war is being far away from the ones you love. This is what people directly involved in wars feel, and what I feel, too, about this concept. And I am still asking myself: “Why are the soldiers just like puppets manipulated by puppet masters? Why aren’t the ‘masters’ playing the real game on the battlefield instead, so they could be able to feel the reality?”

War is not a normal thing to happen now, and we all are aware of this fact. We can, as the population of this planet, to behave in a civilized manner and find another way, I’m sure of that. We have to think of the ones that were, are and will eventually be involved in a war, as well as of collateral victims. What traumatisms they go through and if it is really worth it.

Certainly, the conflict ongoing in Ukraine should not deviate into a war because this would bring prejudices to many countries which are situated near Ukraine and indeed to my country, Romania. We are not prepared for a war, and I refer here to the young population of this country. We want to live normal lives, to go to university and study, not to wake up in the middle of a foolish conflict.

I hope that leaders will realize the risks and disadvantages of war itself, and will try to find other ways of sorting things between the countries they rule, for the good of us, the rest of the population.

A concerned and hopeful citizen,
Petra Lia Sirbu

Letters to the World (1)

To whom it my concern:

War is generally associated with extreme violence, social disruption and economic destruction.
I live in Romania and this country shares western borders with Ukraine. If Russia were to attack Ukraine, Romania would be the host of a riot, particularly in the northern part of the country. As a result of all the conflicts from the other side, these days the Romanian Parliament has discussed upon the idea of recruiting young people in the army, in order to be prepared for what it may happen. This would be done if the war took proportions. Taking all these into consideration I think I would not be able to resist such a war and the military maneuvers.
What is happening in Ukraine nowadays did not occur overnight, it represents the result of accumulated negative energies since the birth of an independent Ukrainian state in late 1991,energies which have led to extreme violence, in which dozens of people involved in street meetings have lost their lives so far and it threatens to turn into a full-fledged civil war.
Russia is a great power from all points of view, which holds a large territory, but wants to do everything possible to get richer by taking advantage of a small country. As I guide myself by the principle "the best succumbs", I believe that the leaders of the two countries, especially Putin, should give up the military maneuvers and forget about the annexation of Ukraine.
